World Health Day is April 7th. This year, why not make it the day that you make a change in your life or the life of a loved one struggling with addiction? It may be that you just need a push to do something to change your health and your future. Acting now can make all of the difference. At Fresh Start Recovery Center, we’re here to give you the tools to thrive.
What Is World Health Day?
The World Health Organization sponsors World Health Day. It is a day to celebrate and bring global awareness about various health needs. This annual celebration is meant to focus on specific health topics, encouraging people to get the help they need. In place since 1948, this day often brings attention to a specific health topic. Yet, it is also a good time to think about your own health and to find support for those who may be struggling.
Use World Health Day to Get Help for Addiction
If you are struggling with addiction, treatment is available. Getting help now may help to prevent the onset of further health complications. It may also provide you with a way to create a new path for your future – one you control. You may benefit from addiction treatment if you have signs of dependence or drug abuse. These signs might include:
- Using more and more of the substance
- Needing to use each day, or wishing you could
- Using drugs or alcohol to deal with stress or bad memories
- Prioritizing drug use over overall health, responsibilities, or other people
- Feeling pain, headaches, insomnia, or intense anxiety when you stop using
- Having strong cravings for drugs or alcohol
Addiction treatment works to eliminate these symptoms, providing an opportunity for you to deal with the cause of addiction. It also enables you to heal. Addiction is not only damaging physically to your kidneys, heart, brain, and liver, but it also impacts mental health. Treatment can eliminate these risks or at least help start the healing process.
Use World Health Day to Help a Loved One
Do you have a loved one struggling with drug or alcohol addiction? Perhaps you know they need help, but you’re unsure how to give it to them? It does not have to be a loved one. The heroin epidemic around the world, including right here in the U.S., is so significant you may know someone that’s using this drug uncontrollably.
It’s possible to help even from a distance. Educate others about these drugs. Post on social media about resources for those who are struggling with addiction. Contact an addiction treatment center to inquire about availability for your loved one. Help a person using drugs to get into a detox center. Lasting recovery is possible, and you can help support those who are working towards a healthier life.
